Comments moderation

description

Currently there is no way you can moderate comments or I must have missed something. I have disabled this functionality completely now but could we add comment moderation in a future release?

Does this mean you have disabled the comments functionality or the missing moderation option?

Personally I will not miss the comments if that's the case. I think they are just messing up the clean question/answer setup. Users are getting confused by what is a comment and what is an answer.

I have removed the comments option. Don't need that either.

It's just as confusing to be in the position of having a comment and the only option to be to post it as an answer, especially when you are the one who asked the initial question and need to provide additional info to someone who answered. No one want to be down-voted for having a comment in an answer.

I definitely do not agree with disabling comments.
Yes to comments need to be moderated.

But there's many times where you want to comment on the answers people give, and that's not another answer.

a) as a user that asks the question, I do not want to answer my own question, I want to thank the person who answered and says whether it resolves my question or not.

b) as a user that's looking at another question, I could add a clarifying comment to the answer while not pretending that this is an answer (which can be accepted)

It is very important to separate Answers from comments. Answers could get accepted, comments cannot. there's a natural workflow for answers, while comments are just discussion. Giving an answer should gain you more gamification points than commenting for example. Givin an answer is actionable, while commenting, again, is just talk. which sometimes is very very usefull.

Example: DNNEvoke has remove comments recently, and it sucks. Atlassian answers (https://answers.atlassian.com/) supports comments, and you can convert comments to answers, and that rocks! I can thank people using comments and not add answers which are not answers.

Please do not check in this modif, or if you want to work on this, please either
a) make an admin option to activate/desactivate comments.
and/or
b) allow for comment moderation

I agree: Comments are really important, and it's important that users know when to use comments and when to use answers. But I agree: It should be possible to moderate comments, and upvote / downvote comments (and also delete comments). Basically, IMHO, comments should have everything that questions/answers have but they should be easy to hide and not dominant in the UI (e.g. only first three comments, shown, long comments shortened with "more" link and so on).
